Soho House opens L.A. outpost for screenings

NewstogramUpping the stakes for awards season events, Soho House West Hollywood, the private club that numbers many industryites, opens a screening room today. Pre-opening events included screenings of Miramax's "The Debt" and DreamWorks Animation's "Megamind" for members and their families.

The room has seating for 50 in large armchairs, as well as a front row of low red velvet lounges. Cashmere blankets, cocktails and snacks are on the menu. Events booked so far include a Q&A with Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu for "Biutiful" on Thursday, and screening and reception for docu "Babies" later in November, both from Focus Features.

Screenings must be booked by members or those recommended by members and may be used for press or industry screenings, business meetings and other events. As at the New York outpost, a screening series is planned for members and their guests; first event was hosted by Robert Evans with an unspooling of "The Kid Stays in the Picture."

Room can accommodate 3D, 35mm in Academy and Cinemascope formats as well as Blu-ray and DVD screenings. The adjacent Club room can be used for parties.
